Mississippi has the 16th-highest car insurance rates in the nation, with drivers paying almost $70 more per year compared to the nationwide average, according to a recent report by TheZebra.com. But, Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney stated that statewide, rates should closely reflect the average noting that State Farm, Progressive, and other insurance businesses have asked the consent to decrease premiums of his office. “Competition and market share have turned around proposed rate increases by many businesses, such as State Farm,” Chaney said. “In addition, new technology used in cars and in driver instruction by insurance companies has driven down costs for customers.” However, he said prices are being increased by driving. “That has not gotten improved at all,” he said, even as insurance companies seek methods to induce drivers to avert it….
