The Montana State Auditor’s Office recently declared up to 3,645 Montanans might be eligible to recoup cash from a short-term medical insurance plan that conducted in 2012-2016. The auditor’s office arrived with call centers, insurance companies, and people who utilized deceptive sales tactics to sell insurance policies to Montanans to a $284,500 settlement. Kyle Schmauch, communications director for the Montana State Auditor, says,”We obtained the names and addresses of those 3,600 people from business records,” although the auditor’s office is unsure how many of them were offered policies under false pretenses or with deceptive sales tactics. The auditor’s office sent letters to the potentially affected Montanans, that will have to reply by Nov. 9 to become eligible for the restitution obligations. “It will take at least a month, it might take up to a couple of weeks, but it’s going to be less than six months,” Schmauch states, adding that the timeframe will likely hinge on the number of people affected.
