In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian’s current landfall in North Carolina, Tennessee Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III and the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) are urging Tennessee consumers to be alert to potential cost, charity scams, and the sale of water-damaged vehicles. “While many Tennesseans reveal the’volunteer spirit’ by helping their friends and neighbors recover following a natural disaster, some unscrupulous individuals use the occasion of a tragedy to better themselves at others’ expense,” explained TDCI Interim Commissioner Carter Lawrence. “We are reminding Tennesseans to be wary of potential Hurricane Dorian scams at the months and weeks ahead and always report any illegal or suspicious action immediately to law enforcement authorities.” Any individual is required by law to disclose such history to the purchaser. Once titling that vehicle, the buyer will be given a vehicle title indicating the salvage history of the vehicle. Anyone attempting to purchase a car in the near future should try to get to the automobile history before purchasing, and must be on the lookout for indications of a flood automobile, such as a odor , damp carpets, or mud/silt beneath the chairs….
