Wall Street Journal (09/13/19) Sebastian, Dave

About Sept. 13, Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. (PG&E) attained an $11 billion settlement to resolve the majority of claims by insurance carriers from the 2017 Northern California wildfires and the 2018 Camp Fire. It would be the second resolution with major collections of wildfire claimants of the company. Back in June, PG&E agreed to pay $1 billion to compensate counties, more than a dozen California cities, and agencies including losses caused by fatal wildfires sparked by its equipment. The settlement involves roughly 85% of insurance subrogation claims against the business, allowing insurance companies to chase those deemed responsible. They’re based on insurer payouts with policy for wildfires to people and businesses. The settlement would be subject to the approval of the bankruptcy court overseeing PG&E’s Chapter 11 program, which provides $18 billion into wildfire victims, auto companies that have paid fire statements and towns, and other public entities that battled the blazes in 2017 and 2018. PG&E added it is continuing to work to resolve claims. As part of the statement, the $14 billion equity financing commitment was confirmed by PG&E for the Chapter 11 plan.
