A legislative panel at Arkansas has approved a reduction in the fee billed to insurance companies in the state that offer subsidized health care under the Affordable Care Act. The commission, expected to bring in $3.9 million this year, had gone to support the operations of the Arkansas Health Insurance Marketplace, an agency that was consumed by the state Insurance Department on March 15 as a result of a law passed in this year’s legislative session. Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Allen Kerr told lawmakers on the subcommittee that a fee collected by the federal government to support HealthCare.gov is also predicted to decline next year, from 3 percent of their premiums to 2.5%.
