Soon following the European Union’s General Data Protection Legislation (GDPR) has been implemented, the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) was ratified, and it’s provisions comparable to but not equal to this GDPR. The CCPA’s authorities has been deferred to July 1, 2020. Since the CCPA’s enactment, all 50 states amended their data breach notification laws or have introduced their own information privacy legislation. South Carolina was the first country to adopt breach telling and cybersecurity requirements depending on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Model Law, related to most insurance companies and entities that are authorized authorized to operate under the state’s insurance legislation. Vermont’s new law, effective as of February 2019, is important to businesses from the”information broker” industry and requires minimum security criteria, annual enrollment and a host of different obligations.
